Matrimonial & Litigation Billing
First establish trust retainers for files that require ongoing work and explain to clients that they will be invoiced periodically so they are up to date on the work being done on their file. This allows both you and your client to be aware of the costs of their legal matter while work continues to be done, while more importantly forcing you to keep your receivables in check. Nothing is worse than having to write off thousands in fees because a client has a change of
heart and refuses to pay a bill.
Also, make sure to docket your time regularly (as it happens) because if you wait until the end of the week or even day, you may forget to docket certain tasks.
